Exfoliate!

Image
My facialist always tells me to exfoliate. I have been listening recently and am loving the results. Clear skin and less hyperpigmentation - hooray at last!

I had to share some awesome skincare products I've been using for my sensitive combination skin. Just cuz it's winter doesn't mean you shouldn't exfoliate!

Origins calls Modern Friction "nature's gentle dermabrasion" and I agree. You put a little bit on damp skin once a week (Sundays for me) and voila for instant smooth skin. I love that it doesn't sting like other scrubs. Another one I like from their line is Swept Away. I used this on my trip to the Philippines every other day and loved how gently it sloughed away my skin so I could rock the no-make up and au natural look.

Dermalogica's Daily Microfoliant scared me at first, since my facialist said to use this everyday. Sometimes I listen to her and sometimes I don't. When I do use it, I notice my skin is brighter and smoother. Using th…

Feenin' for won ton soup

Image
It's been rainy lately and always a good time to grab soup. It made me think of this awesome meal my hubby and I had in Taiwan during a layover on the way to the Philippines.

I tried the best won ton soup ever filled with scrumptious pork won tons, crunchy carrots, and steamed brocolli. I took out the colorful and flowery fishcakes and onions, but it sure does look good in the picture. I did snag some of my husband's yummy meal of ground pork, tea-flavored egg, and brocolli. We're still not sure what the yellow circular thing was but he claims it was good and crunchy.

I would love to find a Chinese restaurant here in Orange County or Los Angeles that serves food as yummy as what we had in Taiwan. I guess that'll be on my 2008 list to find my next dining adventure.

Dos Postres

I love it when restaurants try a new spin on food. Xanh surprised me with their dessert offerings. I have heard of crème brulee with bananas or berries, but never with coconut. The crunchy consistency of coconut with the creamy custard and caramelized sugar definitely works.

Chocolate soufflé alone is usually rich and decadent, but not when it is accompanied by ginger ice cream or a shot of hibiscus tea.

New restaurant alert - Xanh!

Image
My sister-in-law just opened her new restaurant called Xanh. I invite you to try Vietnamese soul food. Her menu has fun items like chicken skewers infused with lime leaves, seared halibut fillet with green mango, and coconut creme brulee. Yummy!

Buh-bye Samoas

I was forwarded a blog link today that my favorite Girl Scouts cookie name will be changed. Samoas will now be called Caramel deLites. The new name doesn't sound too girly.

Nonetheless, I'm sure I'll still order them when my favorite Girl Scout comes around. I can't pass on that yummy combination of caramel, chocolate, and cocunut. I still remember when my brother and I ordered 20 boxes or so a few years back and hid them all over the house just so we can enjoy them year-round. Too funny!

Save the trees

I first heard about this site on Shop Diary way back and have been meaning to unsubscribe from my catalogs. I hate junk mail and only sort the mail to look for my magazine subscriptions. Tonight, I unsubscribed from Sur La Table, Pottery Barn, Ballard Designs, Nordstrom, White House/Black Market, Vitamin Shoppe, Sears, and Crate & Barrel. Hopefully this stops the madness!

Cupcake idea

I'm not much of a cook, but I love baking cupcakes and brownies. I ran across this Heart Cupcake Pan on Evite's Web site. I think I'll get it and make heart-shaped treats for Valentine's Day.

I heart snow

I haven't bought clothing from Quicksilver or Billabong since the seventh grade. I immediately fell in love with this "i love snow" hoodie from Billabong. It's so warm and toasty. It will be perfect for my Big Bear trip next weekend. Hooray!

Stay tuned for highlights from my trip to the Philippines!
