Too Faced Cosmetics eyeshadow

Image
On one of my recent Vegas getaways, I went to Sephora to look for some new eyeliner or mascara. I ended up getting a makeover by a Too Faced Latina makeup artist. She gave me fierce smokey eyes. I tried doing a day look with these and almost have it. The eyeshadow names are awesome. The dark brown/reddish color is called dirt bag and blue/brown color is called label whore.

The best part of my Too Faced purchase was getting a little gift - a mini mascara of Lip Injection and sample of Shadow Insurance.

monsieur marcel @ Farmer's Market

Image
I went to the Farmer's Markets birthday a few weeks back.

While the hubby and brother got some mexican food, a girlfriend and I decided to splurge and get food at monsieur marcel. We ordered a few dishes to share.

The salad d'endives au roquefort was delish and crunchy. I loved the spinach quiche - so flavorful and fluffy. The cheese plate we got was amazing, but then I'm biased since I love all kinds of cheese. The steak tartare was okay - maybe because I wasn't digging the raw meat. I'll definitely go back again though. Yum!

Wish I can eat these pictures:

How I loved that 80's song! Oh wait, I think that's Total Eclipse of the Heart.

Was just reading LA Times Travel Blog and read that Griffith Observatory will be doing a webcast of the solar eclipse happening in Asia and the Pacific. Wish I could see it in person, but I'm sure I'll catch some good pictures tomorrow.

Vegas buys

I just came back from Sin City and bought some goodies. Stay tuned for my post on purchases from Urban Outfitters and Sephora. Say ooh la la!

Olala Reflexology

Last Sunday, I decided to be a lil' adventurous and try a reflexology massage in Little Saigon. My friend told me she gets them weekly for $15 or $20 an hour. Whaaat?! Where have I been?

First, I drove up to Ohlala Reflexology and asked for a full body reflexology massage. I waited 30 minutes and was directed to this room w/ rows of Lazy Boy leather chairs. I asked for a woman and was seated on a square type of seat while my feet are in a foot bath. She massages my shoulders and neck, then they move you to lay down on the Lazy Boy. Then, they flip you to work you on your back. The pressure was a little deep compared to what I'm used to with swedish massage but overall, it was good.

I think I'll go again. I like that I don't have to make an appointment and that it's nearby.

Great books

I've read a lot of books on my train ride. Here are some mini-reviews. Hope you find something you like!

*resilence by elizabeth edwards - Great book where Mrs. Edwards talks about losing her son Wade, her incurable cancer, finding an identity without John, feelings of betrayal about John's affair. She doesn't have answers on how to get through it but shows how she went through the situation.

*catfish and mandala by andrew x. pham - Interesting book of a Vietnamese man cycling his way through Vietnam to retrace his roots. He often has recollections of his childhood on his journey. What was especially tragic is remembering his sister who committed suicide.

*born standing up by steve martin - I was expecting it to be funny but it was more about his life. He even lived in OC at one point and did magic at some local clubs. He talks about his struggle to make it in stand up and as an actor.

*Audition by barbara walters - Huge book on Barbara's life. Never knew she had an affai…

iPhone Apps

I love my iPhone and not sure how I ever lived without one. Here's a listing of my fave apps. Feel free to comment on cool ones you know.

*Loopt - imagine a GPS on your friends and being able to tell others where you are

*CheckPlease - great tip calculator when dining out

*Gratitude! - $0.99 and worth it. I think this was recommended by Oprah. Every chance I get, I log what I'm grateful, rate my day, and include a picture. This helps me count my blessings when I'm having a bad day.

*Lose It! - I track what food and exercise I do to try to lose that dreaded five pounds. My twenty minute walk to/from work burns 37 calories.

*Yelp - This mobile version is great in helping me find the nearest cupcakery or restaurant.

*Scramble - Great game discovered by my nephew and hubby in New York. I've only mastered to form 39 words in two minutes but hope to up my word count.

*Pandora - Ohmigosh, I'm not sure how I can live without this app! I've created different stations depe…

Messy bun and headband

It's been so hot the last couple weeks. I've been too lazy to do my hair so have been rocking the messy bun and headband look to work, church, everywhere. I love how this hairstyle is so easy but looks so classy and Gossip Girly. Hee! I've been using my Vera Wang headbands too to match my outfits. Hee!

Even Julia Roberts' niece Emma wears it too.

Stila invitation - 07/15

Bubbles of Laguna

Image
When I'm in Laguna, I like browsing the Bubbles store. Imagine a unique bath and body product store.

I saw this cute cupcake bubble bath fizz w/ floating soap frosting. I would totally get it if I had a giant bathtub to relax in. Maybe next time!

Bristol Farms flowers

Image
I was at Bristol Farms on July 4th with my mommy to get a lemon cupcake. While I was giddy over my cupcake, my mom was walking around the store and diggin' the flowers they had at the front of the store. We didn't catch the prices but loved the selection of flowers they had. They were very florist-like and looked perfect for a centerpiece for a dining room table or wedding.

Muse

Image
I've been going to Muse boutique in Laguna Beach for years. Though a lil' pricy, sometimes you can find an item that you must have.

For me last Saturday, it was this cute silver leaf necklace for $15. I think the packaging sold me. How can I resist a package that says "Make a wish".

Cocodot

Saw this in Gwyneth Paltrow's GOOP newsletter last Thursday.

Cocodot

Paperless invitations are all the rage and Cocodot takes it to another level. With tons of designs to choose from, Cocodot’s invitations and greeting cards are easy to send and excellent for the environment. Cocodot will be available to the public in July

I signed up and will check it out when it launches. Might be a neat alternative to Evite.com.

Ice cream timer

Image
A couple Fridays ago, I baked cupcakes and frosting from scratch from the Martha Stewart cupcake book for my brother's graduation party. (I'll have to post the recipes in another post.)

What made baking til 1 in the morning so fun was using this cute ice cream timer. I received this as a birthday gift from a friend and love how dainty and cute it is.

PS. Happy 4th of July!

French's Cupcake Bakery

Image
Last Friday, I drove half an hour in traffic to visit French's Cupcake Bakery. This bakery reminded me of the old mom & pop bakeries compared to the modern day ones of today.

I ordered two treats for myself - lemon blueberry cupcake and black & white cupcake. Both treats were yum but a lil' small.

I think I'll visit this bakery again if I'm in the Costa Mesa area.

A look at the bakery display

Summer Film Series @ UCI

My brother (and recent UCI grad) told me about free films showing at UCI this summer.

Last summer, I caught Heat at the big screen. Pretty cool w/ the surround sound.

Here are some worthy ones coming up:
July 2 Rear Window
August 6 Wall Street
August 13 Glengarry Glen Ross

Did I mention this is free to UCI students, faculty, staff and visitors? Parking is $5 and free snacks too.

So cheesy

I've been craving cheese lately so googled Orange County cheese shops. Check out this list I found on Yelp. I want to try them all out.

Daily Candy recently did a post on Palate Food + Wine. They do fromage nights on Tuesdays at 7 to 10pm. Ooh ahh!
