Blackmarket Bakery

Image
I've heard so many good things about Blackmarket Bakery. Yelp and Where magazine sings its praises, so I knew I had to try it.

The new location at the Camp in Costa Mesa is really nice. It's spacious inside with seating and an open kitchen to watch bakers do their magic. There were so many delicious treats to choose from that it made it hard to decide. I ended up getting the popular black widow tart, largo tart, and seasonal cobbler.

The black widow tart is dark chocolate ganache on top of caramel in a chocolate tart shell. My hubby who doesn't have a sweet tooth like me liked this tart a lot. That's saying a lot.

The largo tart had fresh berries on top of citrus cream. It was a perfect and light spring like dessert.

The seasonal tart was a blackberry and raspberry tart on top of a buttery crust. I loved this tart and can picture having it at brunch with a chai tea. Yum!

Wedding dress choices

Image
I was on the lookout for dresses to wear to a wedding reception this weekend and asked the hubby if I can stop by JC Penny on the drive home somewhere. I had looked online the night before and was impressed by all the choices, particularly the Pearl by Georgina Chapman of Marchesa dresses. Wow, it is such a cute and affordable line for party dresses! It was love at first sight.

I tried on a bunch of dresses. What do you think of my picks below? It was so hard to decide that I bought them all (minus the lavendar color block one).

Which dress is your favorite? Which one should I return?

Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Foundation

Image
I am a longtime fan of Giorgio Armani's Luminous Silk foundation. I went to Bloomingdale's recently to get a refill but was interested in a new foundation. After trying it on, I bought the new Maestro foundation.

The Luminous Silk gives a more glow-y J-Lo look, while the Maestro foundation is matte and sheer. I use the Fluid Sheer #3 to give a hint of a glow from within. So far, so good. It's a foundation that is applied with your fingers and feels very lightweight. I recommend it if you like the no make up look.

OOTD - That's a wrap

Image
I love this Zara skort I got. I feel dressed up, yet it is so comfortable. I paired it with my favorite color combo of black and white.

I'm wearing an Xhilaration top (similar), Zara wrap skort, and Mia Helaine sandals (link). Bracelets are from Nordstroms, SPARKL, and my mom.

Ombre nails

Image
It seems my ombre hair post is popular, that I thought I would do one on ombre nails. I recently did my manicure with silver and pink ombre. One of my friends asked for a tutorial. Sadly, there was nothing to it because I used Sally Hansen Salon Effects nail polish strips in candy stripe.

If I did have more time to do my nails, I would love to try this ombre nail stain from The Beauty Department. I also love this ombre nail tutorial from L'oreal. It's so easy that even a man can do it. That has to be the best tagline ever.

OOTD - White after Memorial Day

Image
I looked up wearing white before Memorial Day and found this article. I guess it was considered bad manners and poor class to wear white before Memorial Day before. How interesting that times change! Now it's all about winter and summer white.

I'm wearing a James Perse dress (link) and Sam & Libby for Target gladiator sandals. Bracelet is from Topshop (link).

China Garden

Image
I heard so many good reviews of China Garden in Irvine for their dim sum. I was so excited when my hubby's family said we'd be going there for a Mother's Day brunch. Score! I wish I can remember everything we tried, but the stand outs are the beef dumplings with soup in them, turnip cake, and  almond puff pastry dessert.

Definitely check out this place and tell me your favorites!

OOTD - Americana dress

Image
I thought this dress would be appropriate for MDW (aka Memorial Day weekend). What do you guy think?

I'm wearing a Jason Wu for Target dress and Sam & Libby for Target sandals. Bracelet is from Banana Republic and my mom.

Cirque du Bebe birthday theme

Image
Earlier this month, hubby and I hosted a birthday party for our gals. I was obsessed with the Cirque du Bebe theme I saw for a baby shower, but was never able to have one with that theme. Never fear, I used the Hostess with the Mostess theme for a birthday party.

My colors were pink, yellow, and zebra print. Decor included safari animals from my gals' toy collection, yellow/pink/zebra streamers, Cirque du Bebe signage, Ikea striped beach towels used as tablecloths. Favors were zebra boxes with safari stickers, bubble, and animal crackers. Pinata was a lion to match the french circus theme.

Hope these pictures give you inspiration for your next shindig!

OOTD - Rainbow bright

Image
Happy Memorial Day, everyone!
Yesterday, I wore this rainbow dress to a bbq and family dinner. Plus I got to sneak out with hubby for a late night froyo date.
I included some foodie pix of homemade taquitos, noodles with grilled dill fish and yogurtland. Yum!
I'm wearing a Lush dress (similar) with Sam & Libby for Target sandals (in stores). Bracelet is from Banana Republic and my mom.

New! H&M outfit

Image
I'm usually not the type to buy a complete outfit at a store, but once I aw this cute zebra printed skirt and olive green with leather detail tank, I knew I had to have it. The tank is $12.95 and skirt is $17.95 at H&M. I'm going to love this safari look this spring/summer.

OOTD - Green bean

Image
Monochromatic looks are so easy to do and make me look tall and skinny. Score!
I'm laughing in these photos because hubby played my photographer. He always cracks me up. It's reassuring  to know that after all these years he can always make me smile and laugh.
I'm wearing a Martin + Osa top (similar), Zara jeans (similar), and Sam & Libby for Target sandals. Bracelet is from Bella Vi.

Old Navy dress find

Image
One of my favorite things to do sometimes is look through the Old Navy clearance racks to see what treasures I can find. Sometimes, I'm not lucky but the last time I went to the Old Navy in Huntington Beach store, I found this lovely orange printed dress for only $11.97. Score!

I can't wait to wear this cute and feminine dress.

PS.
The flyer in my bag says there's a Camp Old Navy sale up to 40% off throughout the store until June 1.

OOTD - Subtle lace

Image
How do you dress up some jeans? With a subtle lace sweater I found in my closet. I think the last time I wore this was in Colorado when I was freezing. How time flies!

I'm wearing a Life on a Hanger sweater (similar), Old Navy tank (similar), and Chip & Pepper jeans. Shoes are Webster Miami for Target (similar). Bracelet is from Banana Republic. Necklace and black bracelet is from my mom.

PS.
Hope you are having a lovely Saturday! My plans include a dentist appointment, facial, yoga or laying out with some magazines.

OOTD - Uniform blue and yellow

Image
When I was in elementary school, I wore a uniform consisting of a blue dress and yellow tie. I must have conditioned my mind after those childhood years not to wear that color combo again. I dared to wear these colors though on a springy day. The sun was bright and shining, while the yellow neighborhood flowers were extra vibrant.

I'm wearing an Old Navy tank (similar) , Madewell cordoroys (link), and Webster Miami for Target flats (similar). Bracelets are from Gap and my mom.
