Maui: swap meet

Image
Hubby told me about the Maui Swap meet in Kahului that happens every Saturday. Even though it's a little bit of a drive, I thought why not. My mom took the almost one hour drive and enjoyed every bit of the scenery. It was mountains on our right and the coast on the left as we made the trek from Kapalua Bay.

Admission to the swap meet is only 50 cents and parking is free! It was very organized and clean layout at the Maui Community College too. There were three rows full of tented vendor booths selling Hawaiian souvenirs, trinkets, clothing, to estate sales. The best part was the farmer's market. My mom bargained with the Ilocana ladies in Tagalog. It's interesting that you buy vegetables by piece for a few cents. 50 cents to 80 cents for a bittermelon, eggplant, okra, etc.  I loved getting fresh coconut juice too from a Hawaiian man who was carving coconuts away.

I definitely recommend this spot if you're traveling to Maui!

Maui: OOTD - Comfy

Image
What do you wear to the Maui swap meet on a hot humid day? This! You have to be comfy. Drinking some fresh coconut juice helps too.

Stay tuned for Maui swap meet blog post this afternoon!

PS.
How do you like those photos from our drive to Kahului? Gorge, huh?

Maui: Fave Hawaiian snacks

Image
Ohemgee! I would grow fat if I lived in Maui. So many good Hawaiian snacks and foods. Here's a glimpse of what I had in our pantry and fridge last week.

My favorite Hawaiian soda is the Pass-o-guava and lilukoi passion flavors. Macadamia nut anything - I got milk chocolate macadamia nuts, honey roasted macadamia nuts, and my fave Kauai Kookie Chocolate Chip Macadamia.

Pog juice is a must. It's passion orange and guava juice. Super refreshing! If they had this on the mainland, I'd be a goner!

Coconut syrup went perfectly with blueberry pancakes. We brought the bottle home so I can continue my Island state of mind.
Sweet potato and taro chips. I wish I tried these when I saw it in the store. Instead, we tried the Maui onion flavored potato chips. Heavenly, especially for someone who hates onions!

Maui: OOTD: Zipper dress

On Day 3 of Maui, I thought I'd wear a dress after a nice hour at the pool sunbathing and reading my book. We also got to try this famous shave ice place in Maui. (Stay tuned for that blog post!)

Maui : Banyan Tree

Image
In the Lahaina Harbor, there is an amazing banyan tree that you can't miss. It's 60 feet high and with trunks everywhere. There are signs not to climb the tree of course. Definitely check out this beauty on Front Street in Maui.

Maui: OOTD: mellow yellow

We went on the Maui Glass Bottom Boat on our second day. I thought I'd wear yellow to match the submarine. Did you catch my blog post about the Glass Bottom Boat yesterday?

Maui: Glass Bottom Boat

Image
I did some research before my Maui vacay and found an affordable alternative to Atlantis. It's the Reef Dancer Maui - Glass Bottom Boat. Tickets were only $34.95 for an our semi-submarine ride. Divers even go underwater and fetch cool sea life. We say octopus, starfish, sea anemone,
tigress fish, and cauliflower coral. It was a great glimpse of what's under the sea. The divers were really friendly too and even named all the boats at sea and gave Maui recommendations. I highly recommend this underwater adventure!

After staring at the amazingly beautiful Kapalua Bay, we went to Whaler's Village for some sightseeing and to get some yummy Hawaiian treats.

Snow Monster

Image
I finally met Snow Monster last week and I am glad to finally meet his or her acquaintance.

I first heard about this Little Saigon dessert place on Instagram. They have macaron ice cream sandwiches! I went twice in one week (addict, I know!) the first visit I had the salted caramel macaron with green tea ice cream. Second time was Oreo macaron with green tea ice cream. Delicious both times!
I cannot wait to head back to this Westminster dessert place.
