OOTD - Grey is the new black

Image
I have always loved grey and so happy that this color is in this season. We  went to the park awhile back and I wore this outfit filled with lots of grey. I like that California winters are mild so all I need is a sweater to stay warm.
PS. How excited are you that Scandal and How To Get Away with Murder is returning tomorrow? I was definitely going though TGIT Withdrawal for sure. And props to ABC on that marketing campaign and keeping the show momentum going.

Milk & Honey

Image
My girlfriend Kimberly from According To Kimberly loves tea like me and recommended the Lavender Tea Latte at Milk & Honey. A few weeks ago, I styled a photo shoot with Serene Sky Boutique pieces for Fabric Fashion Show and was in the area. I ended all my hard work with a refreshing lavender tea latte. It was so yummy and I can't wait to go back for more and hang out in this cute hipster cafe at The Camp in Costa Mesa.

OOTD - Miss CA USA

Image
Happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend! When my friend Manna Kadar invited me to attend Miss CA USA in Long Beach, I jumped at the chance. I have never attended a beauty pageant and was excited at the chance.  I took my Serene Sky fashion team member Yu and we sat with SleekHair friends Sarah and Joan.

In my humble opinion, beauty pageants get a bad rap for being superficial. However, upon hearing the interviews of the contestants, I was amazed at how ambitious and intelligent the women were. One woman was a double major in mechanical engineering and journalism. Another one was into supporting charity for special needs children. It made me think about the term "beauty and brains". I definitely can see that with these gorgeous women. I applaud them for working so hard to get to the Miss CA pageant and hope they continue their educational and extracurricular activities.

OOTD - Warby Parkers debut

Image
This is my first time debuting my Warby Parker Welty eyeglasses on the blog and instagram. What do you think? My eyes were bothering me the other Friday so I decided to wear my eyeglasses out to storytime , lunch reunion with my mom and appointments. By the way, the above photo was featured in my friend Manna Kadar Cosmetic's instagram for the Lip Locked color Manna Babe. Isn't that bold lip color awesome?

OOTD - Have fun

Image
Are you having fun in 2015? I definitely am. From shooting a lookbook with a blogger friend, attending Agenda Long Beach, going to Miss CA USA, styling photo shoot collaborations, new projects, planning surprise birthday brunches, and getting pop up shop opportunities, this year is turning out to be a good one and I hope it continues (knock on wood).

OOTD - Agenda Long Beach

Image
What do you wear when you go to a trade show? Something comfy and cute, of course. I attended the Agenda Long Beach tradeshow earlier this month with my fashion team member Yu. We were able to scope out new brands to possibly include in Serene Sky Boutique.

Dunkin Donuts

Image
If you follow my @sunnynblueblog instagram, you know of my love for donuts. I went to Agenda Long Beach a few weeks ago and spotted Dunkin Donuts and was immediately giddy with excitement.

I have heard so much about Dunkin Donuts and how East Coast people love their coffee and donuts. It was so nice to see it here in Long Beach. After attending the tradeshow with my team member, we went to their drive through and rewarded ourselves with some donuts.

Pictured below are lemon, boston creme, bavarian creme, french cruller, and strawberry sprinkle donuts. I personally like the boston creme one. Who can beat chocolate glaze on top with custard inside?  Also, the vanilla chai tea is to die for! Can't wait to go back!

Makeup of the day: Smoky pastel

Image
Happy Tuesday! I thought I would do a different post and showcase a makeup of the day. I created this look before New Years Eve. I call this a smoky pastel look. I love how playing up eyes and lips  creates this  soft dewy look.  Smoky eyes are my favorite way to open up my almond eyes.

Winterize your nails Julep-style

Image
Winter time usually means wearing darker colors and I am absolutely in love with the new Pantone color of the year Marsala.
The burgundy Joanne color from Julep is such a gorgeous color and perfect for  Winter time and all year round. I would definitely put the bronze Sawyer color on my toes for a nice pop of color and maybe switch it up with the sparkly sky blue Kiki color. Which Julep nail color do you like? I really love Julep's tutorial on how to winterize your nails.

Being a native Southern Californian, we don't really experience winter. The weather can go from 80 to 70 degrees in a matter of days.  With no snow here in Coastal OC, it can be hard to feel like it's winter time.
To make it feel like winter, I thought why not winterize my nails Julep style. My favorite burgundy color is Aisha and navy color is Michelle from Julep. I painted with Aisha and used Michelle on my thumbs for subtle nail art. I did polka dots to simulate snow and a stripe to represent the w…

Lucky Brand jeans

Image
I was first introduced to Lucky Brand jeans by my boyfriend and now husband during my college days.

Time must have flew by and I'm so happy to get my very own pair of jeans from Lucky Brand. While I was at Beauty Con LA last August, there was a Lucky Brand booth where we got to meet the women's jeans designers and discuss the latest fall fashion from boyfriend, bootcut, to cigarette styles. We even got to try on a few styles to see our favorites. See my Beauty Con LA recap  here.

Before the holidays, I went to the Lucky Brand store in Fashion Island Newport Beach. The staff there was so great in assisting me as I looked through and tried on different styles for my petite body. I am used to skinny jeans and it was neat to try distressed and boyfriend styles. I walked away with the Charlie Skinny and Sienna Boyfriend style.

I styled them for some holiday outfits while hanging with family visiting from Colorado.

For Christmas eve, we decided to spend the day in Laguna Beach. What…

Profile: Monica Pommier Grubin from Pure Barre OC

Image
How did you get started with Pure Barre OC? I would love to tell you I feel in love with Pure Barre the first time I tried it….but it took about 5 classes to realize the potential of this workout. I hated it my first class. I was mad and frustrated why a Division 1 water polo player who played 4 sports growing up couldn’t make it through class. I am not very good a failing at anything.  It took me 5 classes to realize failure is what you wanted in Pure Barre. The shaking and having to stop and my muscles burning is what was taking my bulky muscles and organically leaning them. So often in hot yoga I would pull a muscle thinking I was more flexible than I really was because I was in this artificial environment. With Pure Barre in a month I was able to touch my toes (never before done) and soon enough could do the splits. My mom takes class with me to this day and she is still shocked that I can do the splits. Pure Barre has taken my strong but bulky muscles and lengthen me…

OOTD - Merry Christmas

Image
Ever since I can remember, I have dressed up for Christmas and last year was no exception. On Christmas day, I still didn't know what to wear but thankfully hubby bought me a lace jumpsuit from Zara for Christmas.

I knew I had to pair it with the Hera necklace by Gena Myint from shopserenesky.com. Since it was warm out, it was a perfect holiday outfit for two family parties.

OOTD - Holiday red

Image
Last month before the holidays, I had such a great time giving back. I volunteered with my dad's Rotary club to serve lunch and bring Santa Claus over to the foster children at Orangewood Children's Foundation. I thought I would wear red to cheer the holiday season.

Stax Cookie Bar

Image
I was so excited to hang out with my gals and nephew last month. Even though the temperatures were freezing, I still wanted to try Stax Cookie Bar that I first spotted on Instagram.

At the University Center location in Irvine, I decided on chai tea cookie and chocolate chip cookie with chocolate covered strawberry ice cream. My gals got vanilla ice cream. I really liked it and can't wait to go back and try more ice cream.

San Francisco: Ghiradelli ice cream

Image
Ghiradelli is to San Francisco as peanut butter is to jelly.

For a native Californian and occasional San Francisco tourist, I have never tried Ghiradelli ice cream. I finally had a chance during my last San Francisco visit. We ate Italian at Piazza Pellegrini with the family and a girlfriend and wanted to get ice cream elsewhere. Because it was raining the closest spot was Ghiradelli in the Westfield San Francisco mall. The food court was super cute with lots of neat options.

The Ghiradelli dessert menu was extensive. We decided on a vanilla on a waffle bowl and sea salt caramel ice cream sundae. The sundae was so decadent and amazing. For the first time in my life,  I could not finish it all and good thing because I was sharing with a girlfriend.

I definitely suggest you try a Ghiradelli ice cream dessert on your next visit.

San Francisco: King of Thai Noodle House

Image
I have fond memories of San Francisco's King of Thai Noodle House restaurant. It's a  restaurant located in Union Square and one of the restaurants we visited years ago pre-kids and before we got married. The food still doesn't disappoint. Even though, there was this monster Bay Area Storm, hubby and I still ventured out for late night dinner. We got the vegetable pad thai, panang curry with tofu, and my hubby's favorite tom kha soup. It was way delicious and perfect for the rainy San Francisco night. If you ever make it to San Francisco, look up this spot.

San Francisco: Uniqlo Flagship

Image
On my previous San Francisco visit, I saw a construction sign that a Uniqlo flagship store was coming to San Francisco. The grand opening date was after my visit so imagine my disappointment.

This time around, I was able to walk to the Uniqlo Flagship hotel from our Parc 55 hotel. This Uniqlo did not disappoint. It definitely reminded me of my New York experience in Soho and why I fell in love with this brand that my hubby introduced to me after his Tokyo business trips. The price points are amazing and they offer the perfect basics.

I was able to get a black long sleeve tee along with some other basics for me and hubby. The visual merchandising and colors were amazing. I loved a few things in the store like this wool blended collarless coat; the camel is sold out but they have a black available online. The Not Not Asking sweatshirt I love was not online, but I love this Jack Pierson sweatshirt too.

Be sure to visit this store if you are ever in Union Square in San Francisco.

San Francisco: Piazza Pellegrini

Image
I'm not gonna lie but I love carbs. I don't think I can ever go an Atkins diet like my hubby or bro in law because I love pasta and bread too much.

For our rainy night San Francisco dinner, a girlfriend suggested an Italian restaurant but we had to quickly change plans because it was closed due to a private event. We went to our trusty Yelp and found Piazza Pellegrini.

Upon walking to the cute street side restaurant in North Hill of San Francisco, we were quickly seated near the window. They were so sweet and brought out bread, olive oil and balsamic as they knew we were hungry. Our table ordered angelhair with mushroom and, roast chicken, lasagna, and margherita pizza. Everything was homemade and amazing. The service was on top of it even though we had a large party.
