I'm Donna D from Orange County, California. My blog is named after my
two lovebirds. I love covering fashion, food and fun. You'll hear
about my dining adventures to shopping deals around town.
Happy birthday to me! Before heading to dinner tonight, I celebrated by getting a free ice cream cone at Baskin Robbins since I'm part of their birthday club . The winter white chocolate was delish. You can't beat white chocolate, chocolate covered cherries, and cherry syrup. It's like a lighter version of Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia. Yum!
Upon reflecting on racism in my life, a few key episodes stick out in my mind. Denmark - My first encounter with racists was in high school when I stayed with a home stay family. They made me feel unwelcome for being an Asian American and kept saying they wish they got an American student, but in my mind I was an American study. They kept inquiring where was I from & I said I’m from California. Q: Tell me about yourself. Hi, I’m Bao. Welcome to my TedTalk. I never realized how strange it is to talk about yourself when someone says “tell me about yourself” outside of a job interview. I’m a 33 year old Vietnamese-American man. I was born in Saigon, Vietnam, grew up in Fountain Valley, California, and moved to Brooklyn, New York last year. I’ve been in education and worked in underserved communities at charter schools for the past 8 years first in Carson, then in Santa Ana, and now in Brooklyn. My parents and growing up on a steady dose of comic books and Saturday Morning cartoons instilled in me a sense of right and wrong and a love for the less fortunate that’s translated to a strong internal drive for justice. Working in education has made me even more passionate about ensuring there is an even playing field of opportunity for marginalized communities. Also I love combat sports like MMA and boxing, and I enjoy art and graphic design. Q: Y
