Sugar Detox

My weakness is dessert, particularly chocolate malted krunch ice cream, lemon cupcakes, and chocolate walnut cookies. My mom always teases me that I'm gonna get diabetes and hubby says I should lay off the sweets and just have them on the weekend. I did see this article on doing a sugar detox and was thinking of maybe trying it. Some of the tips say to eat fruits and nuts and avoid temptations. That sounds so easy to say but so hard to do. LA outing

A girlfriend will be visiting this weekend so some friends and I are gonna have a neat LA outing. Some restaurant choices my hubby recommends are: 1) AOC wine bar - kinda pricey, but good reviewed tapas place 2) Loteria Grill - Mexican tacos 3) Cha Cha Cha - Caribbean/Cuban food 4) Roscoe's They all sound yummy so I wonder where we'll go. I'm sure I'll blog about my dining adventure soon. Happy Friday!

Thakoon at Target

Michelle Obama's election day dress designer, Thakoon Panichgul, is selling some designs at Target. I love it when you can find adorable clothing at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, when I browsed my local Target, I couldn't find a size small in items I wanted. This dress and blouse was way cute but I guess it just wasn't my day to get something. I'll probably try again in hopes to get something from Thakoon. The colorful prints seem vibrant and fun to wear. What a perfect thing to wear to get you in a good mood! I usually like keeping my favorite stores a secret, but heck I'm feeling in a generous mood today. I was first introduced to Stylishe by a girlfriend (thanks Francois!). This boutique says Brand Name Outlet on the outside but on the inside, whooeee, it's a whole other story. Imagine a unique clothing boutique with Forever 21 prices minus the dizzy array of clothing racks and teeny boppers. I usually shop here with my mom after a jaunt to Target. I have bought many dresses and clothes to celebrate wondrous occasions. I remember getting a dress to wear for my birthday dinner last year, dress to wear for a Vegas getaway, and blouses to wear to work. My most recent purchase is a lovely blue, black and white printed silky dress that I'll model at my girlfriend's baby shower I'm hosting next Saturday. Receipt today: $13.47! Basic Tailor

I have been going to Basic Tailor since I can't even remember. They've been hemming my pants for years. They charge $5/pant hem and can even do original hem onjeans. You see, I'm a 4'10" petite Filipina girl even though I wish I were a 6'2" like what I tell people. The shop is run by these adorable Vietnamese men and women. My usual routine is heading straight to the dressing room where I try on my pants and the lovely man or women adjusts my pants and marks it w/ chalk while asking me "okay?". I kindly say "yes, thank you!". My pants are done within a week and they accept cash payment up front or when you pick it up. My brother and I have been patrons for years. I love supporting my Asian peeps! More info: Basic Tailor Shop, 16051 Brookhurst St, Fountain Valley, CA 92708, 714-531-0239

Fashion Hair Nails

My best kept secret has to be Fashion Hair Nails. Where can you get a spa mani pedi for under $25? This salon is in a blink and you might miss it strip mall in Fountain Valley. It's very clean and run by nice & sweet Vietnamese ladies. I usually go w/ my guy friend or my mommy girl once a month or so for a relaxing beauty treat. I particulary like the nice array of nail colors they have and that they have the latest issue of all women and celeb mags. Highly recommended! They're open on Sundays too. More info: Fashion Hair Nails, 9453 Heil Ave, Fountain Valley - (714) 531-3913

Typical weekday conversation: Co-worker: Want to go to EAT for lunch? Me: For sure. Meet ya in the lobby What's EAT? It's an All American diner in North Hollywood. I've tried their patty melt here, but my absolute favorite is ordering their potatoes and eggs or bagon and eggs. I love that you can order breakfast for lunch for under $10 (that includes tip too!). I usually get the white toast, regular potatoes since shredders have onions (ewww!), sunny side eggs, and hot water w/ lemon. Mmmm mmm good! More info: EAT on Yelp -

Las Brisas

Las Brisas has to be my favorite Laguna Beach restaurant ever. The daytime view is extraordinary. My mom and I went here last Sunday after a sunny afternoon of shopping. Our favorite thing to order has to be the ceviche. The mango added gives it a tangy flavor. (I think I've loved ceviche ever since I was a little girl. It reminds me of family vacations in Mexico.) My mom and I usually split a fish dish. This time, we got the halibut. The garlic potatoes and spicy guacamole-like sauce complimented the fish perfectly. I highly recommend Las Brisas. The view and food are to die for! More info: Las Brisas -

Magnolia Bakery

Two weekends ago when i was in NYC, the hubby was taking me and my bro on the subway so we can go shopping in Soho. We got lost and ended up back at our hotel. Luckily, we stumbled upon Magnolia Bakery. This is the famous bakery that the celebs hit up. I guess it's their version of Sprinkles. I ordered the carrot cake with cream cheese icing and walnuts along with the vanilla cupcake with chocolate icing. Both were delish and tasty! More info: Magnolia Bakery -

Blake on Vogue

I bought the newest issue of Vogue the other day cuz Blake Lively from Gossip Girl is on the cover. I soo can't wait to read the issue and hear what she has to say about Gossip Girl and all the fashion. More info: OMG Yahoo story -

I had the MLK holiday off and went to Sephora to exchange a gift. (I won't say what in case she's reading!). I was excited to exchange it with some new beauty toys. I've always wanted to get a bronzer/highlighter to make it look like I have cheekbones and after trying on a bunch I decided on Benefit since Nars was out of the Sin/Casino duo. My girlfriend also got the Oscar Blandi Jasmine Oil and said it's great for hair to make it shiny and frizz free. Sold! More info: Benefit's 10 bronzer/highlighter - Oscar Blandi Jasmine Oil -

Free makeup tomorrow - Jan 20

I heard about a free makeup giveaway from some peeps today. I also saw some ads at the Nordstrom cosmetic department too. Starting tomorrow, a bunch of department stores will be giving away make-up until supplies last. Now, why couldn't they give away stuff today when I had the day off? Oh well! More info: ABC7 story - South Coast Plaza blog - *Update 02/07/09: I forgot to mention I went to Fashion Island and scored 3 small bottles of Estee Lauder's advanced night repair.

Free Carl's Jr. Famous Star

I haven't had a Carl's Jr Famous Star since grade school. (If I do make a trip there, I usually get their Spicy Chicken sandwich. Yum!) However, Famous Star fans can get one free just by downloading and presenting a coupon before January 31. Thanks 3 for the tip! More info: Coupon -

Shop Diary

I have to share one of my favorite blogs I love reading. Shop Diary covers fashion and shoppping in Los Angeles. The posts cover merchant discounts, sample sales, online sales, and fashion trends. It's a definite must read for for shopaholics and fashionistas. Recent posts have covered a free Pinkberry coupon, cosmetic giveaways, to Bobbi Brown make-up brushes. More info: Shop Diary -

The Farm

I got an e-newsletter yesterday from The Farm and instantly remembered my stay there last January. The Farm is this magical resort spa that believes in organic food and healthy treatments located in Batangas, Philippines. When we stayed there, we were instantly relaxed because it was a nice retreat from the hustle and bustle of staying in the city. The landscaping included tropical gardens, ponds, lagoons, flowers, and palm trees. There was even a neat hiking path that we followed. The spa was so serene, where we had a flower foot bath and two hour duet massage in a cute hut. The suite we stayed in included an outdoor shower and spacious private garden with no TV. Talk about pure relaxation! I highly recommend The Farm to anyone visiting the Philippines when they want some rest and relaxation. More info: The Farm -

$15 haircut

What a steal! A $15 haircut at a Beverly Hills salon on Tuesdays. I researched the Neil George Salon and they have been getting rave reviews on Yelp. Go check out their Training Nights starting January 27. More info: LA Times blog -

Starbucks Gold

On days I take the early train, I treat myself to a vanilla or white chocolate steamer and apricot blueberry muffin at Starbucks. Yum yum! Today, I saw a brochure about a new promotion Starbucks is doing. This card sounds perfect for the Starbucks addict. With a Starbucks Gold card, you can get an automatic 10% discount when you join for the $25 membership. Other perks include a free drink a free drink when you join at Starbucks, free Wi-Fi, treats on your birthday, sharing discount on friends and family days, and more. More info: Starbucks Gold -

NYC report

I did a quick weekend jaunt to New York City last weekend. How I love that city for all the shopping, food, and culture! The frigid temperature and snow was too much for me to handle and made me realize how much I'm a true Cali girl at heart. Stay tuned for my posts on Uniqlo purchases and Empanada Mama!

Shoe Blog

One of the things I look forward to reading every morning is the Shoe Blog. The posts usually cover trends, celebrity observations, to shoe shopping excursions. The Imelda Marcos in me loves looking at all the shoe eye candy. There are some pretty heels I see, but oftentimes, they don't seem practical for real life. The recent post covers shoes worn at the Golden Globe Awards, shoes eyed at Urban Outfitters, and a report from a Shoe Mania sale. More info: Shoe Blog -

Empanada's Place

Before my haircut appointment last night, I swinged by Empanada's Place in Costa Mesa to order something before their 8pm closing time. I asked the cute Spanish guy what's good and he recommended the spicy beef cheese and potato empanada. I ordered them, of course, and loved them. I loved that they were flavorful with a a mix of onions and seasoning. My hubby liked them too since he ate most of them. Definitely tasty: More info: Empanada's Place on Yelp -

I got a new toy on Saturday and blogging from it now. I love reading emails, texting, and browsing the web. I do need to get apps prob shazam to find that perfect song, yelp for my dining adventures, and expando to play when I'm bored. I highly recommend the iPhone. So dope! I'm sure I'll blog more about my iPhone. Hee!

Dry skin, go away

After spending five days in Colorado for Christmas, I almost forgot how the dry air can do a number on your skin. It didn't help that I was sick with a cold. My poor face got so dry. To remedy this, I bought Body Shop's Vitamin E moisturizer at the airport to hydrate my poor face. I've also been laying off on the Dermalogica Dermal Clay cleanser and using Shu Uemura Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/O . The combo of the oily cleanser and moisturizer seems to help. Hooray!

Paul Frank Sale

Paul Frank is having a sale 'til Jan 11. 40% to 50% off!

Leaf ring from Sundance Catalog - I got two so will be exchanging one. Hee! These tan suede boots I've been wanting forever. Thanks Dok!
