OC Fashion Week: Sugar Rush recap

Yesterday morning, fashion was in the air at Anqi restaurant in Costa Mesa. OC fashion week kicked off with the Sugar Rush event featuring jewelry showcases, panel of beauty and fashion experts, and Rivera swimwear fashion show.

Kathryn Merino, president of Haute OC, introduced the panel after explaining the events happening this week and the theme of sustainability and being eco friendly.

Some highlights from the panel:
  • Rachel Brumbaugh from Costa Mesa's Toni and Guy reported that vintage Hollywood look is in as seen at the Oscars. Visit their YouTube page has more tutorials.
  • Hillary Gadsby, who writes the Stiletto Gal blog,  discussed how neon and straps are on trend for shoes. Her blog's motto is Stand Out. Be Confident.
  • The cosmetic sponsor for LAFW and OCFW, Manna Kadar, talked about beauty looks from their product line to give a sheer glow like JLo and how a bright lip is on trend.

Also in attendance were emerging jewelry designers all with interesting stories:
  • Studio Suzan is a local jewelry line from Costa Mesa. She makes all her jewelry using materials like gold, silver, vintage pearls and beads. Her favorite piece is a necklace with her grandmother's handwriting.
  • KD Luxe uses EFX technology to power their jewelry line. One interesting product is their survivor bracelet that can serve as a survivor tool due to the use of parachute cord.
  • Senhoa supports vulnerable persons & survivors of human trafficking by providing income-generating opportunities with projects in India and Cambodia. Representatives like that the line is fashionable and hip as compared to other non-profit jewelry. Even supermodel Coco Rocha has partnered with Senhoa for a jewelry collaboration.
Two fashion designers presented their lines for the fashion bloggers, stylists, and media in attendance.

88 Orange is a local eco friendly designer from Costa Mesa with designs great for travel and geared for the sexy surfer. Her clothing is unique with a Orange County spin to it by being laundered in a special Blossom fragrance and with names like Newport and Catamaran.

The fashion show by Rivera swimwear brought designs straight from Brazil. The Brazilian influence
was evident with the use of cobalt blue, light blue, floral and prints used in the bikinis. Guilherme Rivera showed his compassion for his designs and said "these designs come from my heart."
