Tempura heaven

I was in tempura heaven last weekend when I grabbed lunch at Mitsuwa in Costa Mesa. I love tempura with a passion and my favorite place is Sanukiseimen Mugimaru.

They have fresh batches of tempura that are available for $1 or $1.50 a piece. Choices include pumpkin, sweet potato, fish cake, shrimp, salmon, egg, and eggplant.




My personal favorites are the sweet potato, pumpkin, shrimp and salmon. All for $7. What a steal! Try this spot the next time you are at the Mitsuwa food court. Yum!

Fire Safety Tips

It’s been about a month since my family and I survived a house fire. It's been a roller coaster of ups and downs. I feel optimistic and very thankful to survive and recover from my injuries. We have been blessed by family, friends, colleagues, and the community for the generosity and support we have received. Our firefighters told me most fires occur in the kitchen or bedroom, either started by electrical or candle. Racist Episodes

Upon reflecting on racism in my life, a few key episodes stick out in my mind. Denmark - My first encounter with racists was in high school when I stayed with a home stay family. They made me feel unwelcome for being an Asian American and kept saying they wish they got an American student, but in my mind I was an American study. They kept inquiring where was I from & I said I’m from California. I complained to the group chaperone and was quickly switched to a more welcoming home stay family and able to have a better experience. Denver - I was on a date with my boyfriend/now husband waiting for our table at a restaurant. I noticed subtle racist Behavior when a white couple who came in after us was seated first. I brought it up to my boyfriend and he says don’t worry about it and we’ll get seated first. This restaurant is first come, first serve.
