Bacchus Wine Bar & Bistro

Earlier this month, my husband and I  had the pleasure of doing a wine and food tasting at Bacchus Bar & Bistro located in Quail Hill in Irvine.

I had been to Bacchus years ago with friends back when it was known as Bacchus Secret Cellar. Bacchus was quietly renovated and relaunched as Bacchus Bar & Bistro earlier this year.

Upon entering Bacchus Bar & Bistro, I immediately loved the cozy feeling of wine displayed everywhere and lights strung above. On the weeknight that we were there, the restaurant was buzzing with guests. The friendly manager Deb met us at our table and gave us some time to check out the menu.

We started off with some wine and a cheeseboard.  I decided on the Euro Whites: Deusa Nai Albarino, Spain , Nikolahof Gruner, Austria, and Vie Vite Rose, France. Hubby started with Round Pond "Kith & Kin", Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. For our cheeseboard, we chose the Chevre' with Rose Preserves, Corazon de Rondo Manchego, and Collier Reserve Cheddar, Bresaola Piccola, and Fig Jam.

My favorite was the Chevre with Rose Preserves. I tend to prefer Manchego usually but I loved the lightness of this cheese and honey drizzle. From my wine flight, the Deusa Nai Albarino from Spain was my favorite. The golden color wine was fresh and had a hint of fruity flavors and upon further research I learned it was grapefruit and mandarins.

For the entrees, we chose the pork belly tacos and were also given the brussel sprouts. Everything looked and tasted amazing. The pork belly tacos reminded me of a spicy tocino (Filipino pork breakfast food) and had an anise type of flavor. I loved the mix of sweet and spicy and can see why this is a customer favorite (and mine). Hubby really enjoyed the brussel sprouts mixed with Chinese sausage, and mild shishito peppers.

The entrees definitely had an Asian twist that I liked. I really liked Chef Charity's execution of these simple yet mouthwatering dishes.

For dessert, I chose the pumpkin cheesecake with ginger snap crust and whipped cream. I loved the presentation of the pumpkin cheesecake served in a cute pot. The Fall dessert went really well with hubby's Argentina Malbec. The spice from the ginger snap crust was a perfect pairing with the red wine.

I can't wait to return and bring my blogger friends for happy hour. Be sure to check their calendar as they have live music weekly and you can also enjoy John George International Champion of Magic. He was awesome when he did card tricks for us.
