Newport Beach Restaurant Week Ends 01/31/16

Last week, I attended Newport Beach Restaurant Week's Media Preview night at Balboa Bay Resort. It was a cozy event with five amazing Newport Beach restaurants offering samples of prix fixe meals and showcasing delectable bites.

Newport Beach Restaurant Week is celebrating "10 years of Good Taste" and produced by Dine Newport Beach and Newport Beach Restaurant Association. The longest running restaurant week in Orange County runs January 18 through January 31, 2016. There are four price points for lunch ($10, $15, $20 or $25) and dinner ($20, $30, $40, or $50).

My favorite from  Newport Beach Restaurant Week Media Preview night has to be Sushi Roku. Sushi Roku opened up last year at Fashion Island. I was in love with their Albacore sashimi with crispy onions and Fluke sashimi with kumquat jam. Zagat calls Sushi Roku as "hyper hip, supercreative, and extraordinary sushi." They are offering a $20 lunch and $40 dinner prix fixe meals for Newport Beach Restaurant Week.



Waterline Newport Beach is run by Executive Chef Rachel Haggstrom. Chef Haggstrom 
 oversees the resort’s dining restaurants, including Waterline Newport Beach, the resort’s signature bay front seafood restaurant and A&O Kitchen+Bar, the resort’s waterfront gastropub. 

Their menu featured: 
  • Squid Taglitelli with Bacon, Chive, Parmesan
  • Beef Short Rib with Polenta and Gremolata 
  • Macaroon with Foie Gras and Huckleberry
  • Push Pop with Yuzu and Almond Daqois
I  loved the beef short rib with polenta and gremolata and push pop with yuzu and almond daqois. Perfect dinner cuisine for a night in Newport Beach. 






Lighthouse Cafe is run by Chef Ryan Sumner. Sumner is an Orange County local and has worked previously at Charlie Palmer Bloomingdales and The Beachcomber Cafe. Since Sumner joined Lighthouse Cafe last fall,  he began developing the California coastal cuisine menu with a focus on seafood, fresh, seasonal flavors and light dishes that are refreshingly delicious with an inventive twist. 

I fell in love with his fresh ahi sliders and chocolate stout cake. It was definitely California and a perfect meal for date night in Newport Beach. 



Fig & Olive Newport Beach has to be my new favorite restaurant in Fashion Island. Their Sunday brunches and dinners do not disappoint. Their crostinis are heavenly. This restaurant never misses a beat in their Mediteranean inspired cuisine and presentation. 

I was obsessed with their Butternut Squash & Chestnut VeloutĂ© and Insalata Di Fregola. So gorgeous and so delicious! 


Coliseum Pool & Grill at The Resort at Pelican Hill is one restaurant I have been eyeing.  I have heard about their al fresco dining at The Resort at Pelican Hill. Chef Micah balances a seasonally inspired all-day menu of nutritious children’s favorites, playful poolside dishes and elevated American cuisine with international influences. 

The Clam Chowder "New England Style" was a perfect comfort food for the media preview night. I loved the Lamp Pita Wrap which included Mint Yogurt Marinated Leg of Lamb, Diced Tomato, Kalamata Olives, Cucumber, Red Onion, Shredded Lettuce, Tzatziki Sauce. This would be a perfect meal to relax and enjoy the Newport Beach coastal breeze. 



A "foodie" night wouldn't be complete without white and red wine. A special cocktail "Baysider" was also created for Newport Beach Restaurant Week. It was a refreshing drink of Tito's Vodka and lime and grapefruit juice flavors.
